SOCIAL ISSUE, HUMAN RIGHTS AND SOCIAL POLICIES
Understanding that it is possible to analyze the social issue, the rights and/or the social policies dissociated from the capitalist context, the Course has as its common thread studies on social policy understanding it as a result of connections and convergences of the interests which permeate the State-Society relationship, constituting a current form of exercise of power used to face manifestations of the social issue. Among the reckoning of demands presented by the social reality, in which social protection services are precarious and intermediated by dependency and tutelage relationships, against the constitutional principles, there is need to deepen the analysis, from a critic and multidisciplinary perspective, of the social policies in a way that’s interrelated with social and human rights, highlighting its characteristics in the globalized world, in Brazilian society, and its processes of regionalization intermediated by border territories.
Lines of research
State, social rights and social policy
Studies, under a critical reference point, Social Policy from a multidisciplinary perspective, analyzing the processes of formulation and implementation of social policies, highlighting the elements which confer those policies institutionality – the processes of management, the financial framework, the outlines and evaluative focus points, the exercise of social control. Research, also, about the work processes of different areas related to the development of social policies, with emphasis on the search for interdisciplinarity, intersectoriality and verification of the impact over the users’ quality of life. Encompasses comparative studies on the Systems of Social Protection in the Southern region of South America, with emphasis in the particularities of the border regions and Border Lines.

Human Rights, Security and Access to Justice
Transforming Human Rights into a cross-sectional parameter in your research schedule, aside from an object of study in itself, allows the investigation, under critical and interdisciplinary points of reference, the policies and practices bound to social rights of safety and access to justice. In that sense, it also addresses the administration of justice and the social control dynamics, instances and institutions, the latter with emphasis on the criminal justice system (legislation, Police, Judiciary and Prison). Includes in its research commitment the racial and gender focus and, in the territorial sphere, discusses Latin American perspectives – theoretic and empiric, with special emphasis on the protagonism of municipalities in face of safety public policies, aside from the peculiarities of theborder contexts.

Social Issue, Work, Sociabilities and Political Resistances
Investigates, under a critic and interdisciplinary point of reference, the different theoretic perspectives on the context of social relations and policies, with special emphasis on the participation of processes of human and social rights realization. Encompasses subjects such as the social issue, the State x civil society relationship, the diverse relationships of violence and social/territorial expropriation, the space of contemporary social movements, the processes of social resistances and struggles, the work and the different forms of production and life expressed in other economies, the reflexes of colonialism and patriarchate as forms of oppression, the urban and environmental conflicts in face of the standard of capital sociability in a peripheral context.
